Remote, AVD Desktop Engineer/Architect - Only W2

Required Skills

• Strong experience administering Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD).
• Hands-on expertise with Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID, and hybrid identity management.
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and Windows Server administration.

Required Qualifications

• 9+ years of hands-on experience administering Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows Virtual Desktop in a production environment.
• Strong knowledge of AD DS, Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity, and directory synchronization.
• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting; experience with Azure CLI and infrastructure-as-code tools such as ARM, Bicep, or Terraform is an advantage.
• Solid understanding of Windows Server, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
• Experience with Azure networking, including virtual networks (VNets), Network Security Groups (NSGs), and private endpoints.
• Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Kusto Query Language (KQL).
• Strong troubleshooting skills across identity, networking, Windows infrastructure, and virtualization environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Microsoft certifications such as AZ-140, AZ-104, or AZ-800/AZ-801.
• Experience developing automation tools, custom scripts, web applications, or dashboards for IT operations.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Intune and endpoint management for AVD session hosts.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code deployment practices.
• Experience optimizing cloud infrastructure costs and Azure Virtual Desktop resource utilization.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and end users.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and manage AVD host pools, session hosts, workspaces, and application groups.
• Monitor AVD performance, capacity, and system health; troubleshoot connectivity, user profile, and session-related issues.
• Maintain and update session host virtual machine images, including patching and security configurations.
• Provide Tier 2/3 technical support for virtual desktop connectivity, application, and performance issues.
• Implement security baselines, Conditional Access policies, and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Administer on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, including users, groups, organizational units, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and directory synchronization.
• Troubleshoot authentication, Kerberos, hybrid join, and identity synchronization issues.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, or similar tools.
• Automate AVD provisioning, scaling, monitoring, image updates, session host management, and routine maintenance tasks.
• Build dashboards, monitoring alerts, and reports using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, KQL, and Power BI.
• Develop self-service tools and operational runbooks to streamline support activities and reduce manual effort.
• Integrate automation solutions with IT service management platforms such as ServiceNow.
