Summary:

The role of the Inspection SME would be to provide ongoing technical support to the various departments in Engineering and Construction concerning inspection activities, including working closely with the Welding, Materials, Coating SMEs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide inspection staffing plans for the manufacturing and coating of pipe and pipeline components based on requirements specified by Energy Transfer, known issues with vendors, and level of risk to company.
  • Provide input and support to the inspection work offer process, with primary focus on developing and approving inspection scopes of work. Recent data shows we are hiring approximately 300 inspections per year.
  • Review Quality Assurance Manuals, Manufacturing and Procedure Specifications, and Inspection and Test Plans (based on project requirements).
  • Read daily inspection reports and communicate to Integrity SMEs and Project Mangers to resolve issues identified in a timely manner. Communicate to Project Managers possible impacts to project.
  • Review inspection required documentation for acceptability.
  • Perform audits of inspection crews to ensure inspection is completed per Energy Transfer requirements.
  • Assist the Integrity SMEs with vendor audits or when failures or issues are identified at the various manufacturing facilities or on site at project locations.
  • Provide inspection of surplus pipe and other equipment/materials at Energy Transfer's warehouses or storage yards.
  • Attend large load-outs for E&C capital projects to ensure requirements are being met for inspection and handling.
  • Support Materials Management from a technical standpoint in enhancing their grading system for inventory to ensure that assigned grades are as objective as possible.
  • Support E&C Project Execution on coordination of specialty Project Manager-identified inspections at surplus yards.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
  • High school degree or equivalent and 8+ years of related inspection experience, 10 years preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of appropriate engineering and construction standards and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards for the manufacture of pressure containing equipment for the oil and gas industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance techniques, principles, policies, procedures, systems, standards and practices
  • Strong knowledge of logistics industry and modes of transport.
  • Must be detail oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to assess circumstances and develop clear and detailed reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Must be willing and able to travel, domestically and internationally; often with little prior notice.
  • Must be able to interface effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.


Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • The Specialist level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 6+ years of relevant job related experience
  • The Sr Specialist level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 8+ years of relevant job related experience

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
