Overview:
Own the end-to-end validation of data migration into Salesforce from legacy/source systems. Partner with ETL developers, Salesforce admins/developers, and business stakeholders to ensure migrated data is accurate, complete, and reconciled across all target objects and integrations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define test strategy and plans for Salesforce data migration across SIT, UAT, and production cutover
- Translate data mapping and transformation rules into executable test cases and validation scripts
- Build and run complex SQL and SOQL queries to validate field-level accuracy, data completeness, referential integrity, and deduplication
- Perform pre-load and post-load checks, legacy-to-Salesforce reconciliation, and discrepancy analysis
- Validate ETL workflows, transformation logic, and error handling; raise and triage defects with clear replication steps and data evidence
- Execute multiple migration cycles (dry runs, mock loads, final cutover) and produce reconciliation and exception reports
- Automate repeatable validation where feasible (e.g., scripts, stored procedures, query libraries)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, and sign off on migration readiness
- Track test coverage and results in test management tools; provide daily/weekly QA status and risk updates
Required Skills and Experience:
- Hands-on experience testing Salesforce data migrations/conversions across standard and custom objects
- Strong proficiency writing and optimizing SQL and SOQL for data validation, reconciliation, and profiling
- Practical experience with ETL/data integration processes (extraction, transformation, loading) and working with ETL teams
- Demonstrated success in end-to-end conversion testing, including legacy-to-target comparisons and defect analysis
- Solid understanding of data mapping, transformation rules, data quality checks, and migration testing methodologies
- Proven ability to create and execute test cases/scripts and produce validation/reconciliation reports for conversion projects
- Familiarity with defect management and test management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Zephyr, qTest)
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and stakeholder communication
Preferred/Bonus:
- Experience with ETL/integration tools such as Informatica, MuleSoft, Talend, SSIS, or Dell Boomi
- Exposure to Salesforce Data Loader, Data Import Wizard, Bulk API, and Change Data Capture
- Experience with enterprise databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake) and data profiling tools
- Scripting for data validation automation (e.g., Python) and use of CI/CD pipelines for migration runs
- Salesforce certifications (e.g., Administrator, Platform App Builder, Data Architect) or ISTQB/ASTQB certification
- Knowledge of data governance, PII handling, and compliance (SOX, GDPR/CCPA) in migration contexts
- Performance testing for bulk loads and large datasets
Deliverables:
- Test strategy and detailed test plan for each migration wave
- Traceability matrix linking mappings/requirements to test cases
- Test cases, reusable validation scripts (SQL/SOQL), and test data sets
- Execution results, reconciliation and exception reports, and defect logs
- Daily/weekly status reports and final QA sign-off/go-live validation report
Engagement Details:
- Experience level: 5–8 years in QA with 3+ years focused on Salesforce data migration/conversion
- Work model: Agile/Scrum; collaboration with data, integration, and Salesforce platform teams
