Job Title: Senior Mainframe Developer

Location: Tampa, FL (Onsite)

Job Details

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Developer with deep expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL to support and enhance mission-critical applications. The candidate will play a key role in development, maintenance, production support, and modernization initiatives in a high-volume enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL
Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
Perform impact analysis and support system enhancements and upgrades
Develop and optimize DB2 SQL queries, stored procedures, and perform performance tuning
Handle production support, incident resolution, and root cause analysis
Work on batch and online (CICS) processing systems
Prepare functional and technical design documents
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, business analysts, and infrastructure teams
Participate in code reviews, testing (unit, integration, UAT), and deployment activities
Ensure adherence to coding standards, security policies, and SLA commitments

Required Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience in:

• COBOL (Structured & Object-Oriented)
• CICS (Customer Information Control System)
• DB2 (SQL, Stored Procedures, Performance Tuning)
• JCL (Job Control Language)
  Experience with:
• VSAM, IMS (preferred)
• Mainframe utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER)
• Debugging tools such as Expeditor and Abend-AID

Knowledge of:

• Batch processing and scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA-7)
• Version control tools (Endevor, Changeman
• Familiarity with mainframe modernization or API integration is a plus

Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced production support environment
Team player with mentoring capabilities

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience in banking, financial services, or insurance domains
Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies
Experience in modernization initiatives (mainframe to distributed/cloud environments)

Nice to Have
Knowledge of REST APIs and microservices integration with mainframe systems
Experience with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines for mainframe
Exposure to tools like z/OS Connect and IBM MQ
