Summary

Job Title: Senior Life Safety & Fire Protection Engineer (Advanced Facilities)

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly technical and detail-oriented Senior Life Safety & Fire Protection Engineer to join our on-site advanced facilities design team. In this role, you will take ownership of the full project lifecycle for critical life safety infrastructure, specializing in fire alarm and evacuation networks, smoke control, aspirating smoke detection (VESDA), gas detection systems, and hazardous material monitoring.
As a key individual contributor, you will translate code requirements into constructable 2D/3D documentation, manage multi-discipline spatial coordination, and interface directly with code officials and vendors. This position is ideal for a licensed or soon-to-be-licensed engineer who thrives on high-hazard industrial environments and is ready to progressively step into an Engineer of Record capacity.

Key Responsibilities
Life Safety Engineering & Technical Design
System Architecture: Design and engineer complex fire alarm notification, advanced detection, suppression, toxic/flammable gas monitoring, and specialized life safety control systems.
BIM Modeling: Author, review, and coordinate high-fidelity 3D models using Revit MEP and AutoCAD in strict coordination with architectural, structural, and mechanical disciplines.
Engineering Computations: Produce rigorous engineering calculations, equipment sizing specifications, system layouts, and comprehensive construction document packages.
Code Application: Apply a deep working knowledge of international and national codes-including the IBC, IFC, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and NFPA 70 (NEC)-to ensure flawless design compliance.

Project Lifecycle & Field Execution
Vendor Governance: Review advanced vendor submittal packages, shop drawings, and technical specifications to verify absolute alignment with client requirements.
Field Engineering: Conduct active field walks, site evaluations, and technical inspections; provide engineering support during construction, system commissioning, and facility startup phases.
Stakeholder Interface: Act as a primary technical point of contact for clients, material vendors, sub-contractors, and local/state code enforcement officials.
Scope Accountability: Manage multiple concurrent technical tasks while meeting strict project schedules, safety parameters, and technical quality baselines.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Fire Protection, or related technical field) from an ABET-accredited program.
Credentials: Active Engineer in Training (EIT) certification OR a NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
Experience Baseline: Minimum of five (5) years of dedicated professional experience engineering fire alarm and complex life safety systems.
Technical Depth:
oProven hands-on proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
oDirect experience designing or specifying aspirating smoke detection systems (e.g., VESDA).
oMastery over NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) and NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code).

Preferred Qualifications
Active Professional Engineer (PE) License.
Technical experience designing for semiconductor fabrication facilities, cleanrooms, or high-hazard industrial complexes.
Experience with specialized gas detection, Hazardous Production Materials (HPM) tracking, leak detection, or fire dynamics/smoke modeling.
Familiarity with additional NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 75, 76, 2001, 400).
Experience integrating fire systems with low-voltage networks, security matrices, or CCTV.

Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions
This is a 100% on-site role requiring active field mobility.
Must be physically capable of walking long distances across large-scale facility sites, climbing ladders, navigating tight utility spaces, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
