Description
Looking for an Industrial Engineer to join their team. This is a defense technology company headquartered in Austin, TX, building autonomous surface vessels for the U.S. Navy and allied forces. The company entered production in February 2025 and is actively scaling its production capacity across multiple vessel programs. This role sits within the Manufacturing Engineering team under the Production umbrella and reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
to enhance manufacturing capacity and efficiency during a period of significant growth. This role is crucial for identifying and resolving production bottlenecks, optimizing facility layouts, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across an evolving factory environment. The ideal candidate thrives on the shop floor, translating strategic goals into tangible operational improvements. This is specifically not a supply chain, scheduling, or dashboarding role - candidates whose IE experience has been primarily desk or systems-based are not the right fit. This needs to be a production based
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze and optimize the overall capacity of the production system, ensuring line balance and efficient material flow between work centers
Design and manage all facility layouts using AutoCAD, accounting for footprint requirements, material flow, and workforce movement for current and future factory configurations
Conduct in-depth capacity analysis including takt time and cycle time studies, identify bottlenecks, and propose data-driven solutions to increase throughput
Lead and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and operational efficiency
Perform in-person time studies and actively engage on the production floor to gain firsthand understanding of processes and identify areas for improvement
Work cross-functionally with manufacturing engineers, facilities teams, and program teams to align production capabilities with strategic objectives and potential contract demands
Provide early-stage speculative capacity modeling - working with incomplete information to estimate space, people, and equipment requirements ahead of contract awards
Articulate problem-solving approaches and solutions clearly to manufacturing engineers for execution
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering strongly preferred; equivalent production-floor experience considered
Proven experience as an industrial engineer with a strong focus on direct production support and manufacturing line optimization - not solely supply chain, warehouse design, or scheduling
Proficiency in AutoCAD for facility layout design
Demonstrated ability to perform capacity analysis including takt time and cycle time
Experience identifying and resolving production bottlenecks through floor-level observation and intervention
Strong project management and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, and facilities
Willingness and ability to spend significant time on the production floor conducting observations and time studies
3 to 10 years of relevant industrial engineering experience
US Person status required
Austin, TX on-site required
Preferred Qualifications:
Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
Experience with process simulation software such as Simio or equivalent
Experience in industries with robust production-floor IE programs - semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or similarly complex manufacturing environments
Experience performing speculative capacity planning for future production scenarios with ambiguous inputs
Familiarity with NX or Teamcenter

Additional Skills & Qualifications
This role is specifically not a supply chain, scheduling, or dashboarding role. Candidates who have spent their IE career in those functions - even at well-known companies - are not the right fit. The screening emphasis should be on whether the candidate has physically supported production processes, done floor-level time studies, and driven capacity improvements that resulted in measurable line changes.
