About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Payment Expert to lead the design, documentation, and implementation of payment capabilities across digital platforms and mobile applications.
This individual will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for payment workflows and will work closely with internal business and technology teams, external payment providers, and implementation partners to deliver secure, scalable, and seamless payment experiences.
A key initiative for this role is enabling customers to securely save payment information within mobile applications and digital platforms by leveraging payment providers such as Stripe or similar payment gateway solutions. The Payment Expert will define payment workflows, document business processes, coordinate integrations, and ensure successful implementation from requirements through production.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all digital payment capabilities.
Analyze, design, and document end-to-end payment workflows and customer payment journeys.
Lead the implementation of stored payment methods, customer wallets, tokenization, and secure payment experiences across mobile and web applications.
Evaluate and work with payment providers such as Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, Worldpay, Fiserv, Chase Paymentech, or similar platforms.
Partner with Engineering, Mobile Development, Architecture, Security, Finance, Legal, Operations, and external vendors to deliver payment solutions.
Gather business requirements and translate them into functional specifications, process flows, user stories, and implementation documentation.
Coordinate with third-party vendors and payment partners throughout the integration lifecycle.
Ensure payment workflows comply with PCI-DSS, security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
Facilitate workshops with business and technical stakeholders to define payment processes and operational procedures.
Support testing, UAT, production rollout, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities to optimize customer payment experiences while improving transaction success rates and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience working with digital payment systems, payment platforms, or payment technologies.
Strong functional expertise in payment processing, payment workflows, and customer payment experiences.
Experience implementing payment gateways such as Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, Worldpay, Checkout.com, Fiserv, Chase Paymentech, Authorize.Net, or similar solutions.
Deep understanding of payment authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, chargebacks, recurring payments, tokenization, stored payment methods, and digital wallets.
Experience working with mobile applications and web-based payment solutions.
Strong experience documenting business processes, payment workflows, functional requirements, user stories, and process maps.
Experience managing third-party vendors and coordinating cross-functional implementation efforts.
Excellent communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with technical delivery teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience implementing customer wallet or saved payment functionality.
Knowledge of Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, credit card processing, fraud prevention, PCI-DSS, and payment security.
Experience with APIs, REST integrations, and payment service providers.
Experience in retail, eCommerce, home services, financial services, or digital commerce environments.
CSPO, CBAP, or similar certifications are a plus.
