Manager, Data Platforms & Operations

Contract Position: 12 months + potential extension

Location: Dallas, TX (Local candidates only - Hybrid schedule)

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Data Platforms & Operations to lead a large team responsible for enterprise data platforms, data operations, and modernization initiatives. This role will oversee both legacy data environments and the transition to cloud-based data platforms, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable data solutions that support business objectives. The successful candidate will combine strong leadership capabilities with expertise in data governance, platform operations, and transformation programs.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data management, data engineering, or related disciplines
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing large technical teams of 25+ professionals
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise data platforms, databases, data integration, and data management practices
  • Experience delivering data modernization, migration, or cloud transformation initiatives
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, security, compliance, and master data management (MDM) principles
  • Experience with cloud technologies and modern data platforms such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Databricks, Snowflake, or Azure Synapse
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and distributed data architectures
  • Familiarity with streaming and real-time data technologies such as Kafka and Spark Streaming
  • Experience working within DevOps, DataOps, or similar agile delivery environments
  • Relevant cloud or data platform certifications are considered an asset
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data professionals while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Manage the operation, stability, and performance of enterprise data platforms and services
  • Establish and support data governance, quality, lineage, and compliance standards
  • Define service levels (SLAs), monitoring processes, and operational best practices to ensure reliable data services
  • Collaborate with technology, architecture, and business leaders to align data capabilities with organizational priorities
  • Support the design and implementation of modern data platforms, including Data Lake and cloud-based solutions
  • Oversee migration initiatives from legacy environments to modern data architectures
  • Drive adoption of scalable data engineering practices, tools, and technologies
  • Communicate program progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and key stakeholders
