Description

What You'll Do:

As the Network Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing, troubleshooting, and sustaining secure network systems supporting Navy Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training systems. Working alongside senior engineering, cybersecurity, and government technical teams, you will configure network equipment, support installation and integration activities, troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues, and maintain accurate technical documentation.

This position will be based in Norfolk, VA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement and troubleshoot network solutions in accordance with approved designs, architectures, and engineering requirements.
  • Configure, deploy, and support routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, routing, and LAN/WAN connections.
  • Review and interpret network diagrams, rack elevations, cable schedules, installation drawings, and other engineering documentation.
  • Support installation and integration of network equipment, including verification of equipment, cabling, connections, and configuration against approved documentation.
  • Assist with evaluation of copper and fiber connectivity, rack layouts, cable pathways, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Execute network integration and test procedures; troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and interoperability issues and document results.
  • Support network hardening and STIG implementation in coordination with ISSO and ISSE personnel.
  • Assist with RMF technical evidence, remediation activities, configuration updates, and security documentation.
  • Maintain network configuration baselines, equipment inventories, bills of material, change records, and operational documentation.
  • Identify technical issues and risks, recommend solutions, and communicate findings to senior engineers, customers, and program leadership.
  • Support the development and updating of network engineering and installation documentation.
  • This position may require up to 25% annual travel.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience as a network engineer or technician. A bachelor's degree in a STEM related area of study may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, routing and switching, VLANs, subnetting, network segmentation, firewall controls, and copper/fiber connectivity.
  • Ability to read and interpret network engineering drawings, rack elevations, cable schedules, and installation documentation.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting network equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Ability to follow approved engineering designs and procedures while identifying and communicating technical issues or discrepancies.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to engineers, customers, and team members.

Certification Requirements:
  • Qualified candidates will have an operating system certification (Linux+ preferred) and one of the following industry certifications: CEH, Cloud+, GCIH, GICSP, GCES, Security+, or SSCP. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and Security+ will be considered.

  • This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Top Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Salary Range:
  • The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $135,000 - $150,000, commensurate with an individual's experience, qualifications, and skill set. ASEC is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation.
