Telecommunications Design Engineer (Senior)

This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of secure telecommunications and data?center infrastructure, balancing daily Operations & Maintenance (O&M) with strategic engineering and modernization planning. The engineer ensures that voice, data, and network systems remain reliable, scalable, and aligned with Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial best practices.
Core Responsibilities
- Performs daily O&M, direct?touch maintenance, troubleshooting, and provisioning for mission?critical telecommunications and data?center systems.
- Analyzes existing IT and telecommunications architecture to develop long?range strategic plans, modernization roadmaps, and upgrade paths.
- Creates and maintains key engineering work products, including IT roadmaps, engineering configurations, rack elevations, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Designs and evaluates telecommunications and data?center network solutions, ensuring compliance with DoD standards and commercial engineering best practices.
- Supports integration of telecommunications hardware, software, and network components across secure environments.
- Provides technical leadership in planning, documenting, and executing modernization initiatives for high?availability communications systems.
- Coordinates with operations, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to ensure system reliability and secure performance.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years analyzing, designing, and developing IT, telecommunications, and data?center infrastructure solutions using DoD and commercial standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Experience producing engineering drawings, rack elevations, BOMs, and technical roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of secure voice/data systems, network architecture, and telecommunications technologies.
- Ability to support both hands?on O&M and high?level architectural planning in mission?critical environments.
- Active Top Secret / SCI eligibility is commonly required for similar roles.
Work Environment
Engineers in this role operate in secure, high?tempo environments where communications reliability is essential. The work blends hands?on technical execution with disciplined engineering practices and long?term planning. Collaboration with military, civilian, and interagency partners is typical, and on?site presence in secure facilities is generally required.
