Role Summary
The Intersect Group is seeking a Payroll Accounting Analyst to support payroll accounting and general ledger activities in a fast paced corporate accounting environment. This role is responsible for ensuring payroll transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, and compliant with accounting standards.
You will play a key role in month end close, accruals, payroll journal entries, and financial analysis while partnering closely with management to address questions related to financial results and payroll accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile high volume general ledger accounts related to payroll activity.
- Prepare and post payroll related journal entries and accruals.
- Support the month end and year end close processes, including variance analysis and corrections.
- Ensure weekly payroll is properly funded, recorded, and posted for both corporate and franchise operations.
- Research and clear reconciling items, escalating issues as needed and communicating with appropriate stakeholders.
- Audit financial data, identify errors or inconsistencies, and make necessary corrections during close cycles.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements, including participation in SOX walkthroughs and testing.
- Respond to inquiries from management regarding payroll and financial account balances.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and financial analyses as requested.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Finance considered).
- 2–5 years of hands on accounting experience, including true general ledger responsibilities (journal entries, reconciliations, month end close).
- Strong payroll accounting experience or exposure preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and complex data analysis.
- Experience with Oracle highly preferred; Workday experience is a plus.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, accounting principles, and internal control processes.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, especially during close periods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working cross functionally.
Role Details
- Type: Contract to Hire (conversion timing not predetermined)
- Work Schedule: Fully onsite initially (5 days/week); eligible for 1 remote day per week after training
- Location: Enon
- Pay Rate: $35-40/hr
- Hours: 40 hours/week; additional hours may be required during month end and year end close
