Senior Software Engineer (iOS) - Driver App

About the Role

Millions of drivers and couriers around the world use the Uber Driver App every day. Unlike most app users, the amount of time our earners spend in the Driver app is measured in hours rather than minutes. New features and app improvements have an outsized impact on our user's daily lives, so the quality our app is vital to the foundations of of the Uber experience.

We're looking for a passionate iOS developer to help build and improve the Uber Driver app. As part of the platform team, you'll get to:

What you will do

01. Create delightful experiences for our users within our iOS application
02. Elevate the performance of the app with a focus on reliability, recoverability, and tolerance to any network conditions
03. Integrate the latest developments in the iOS ecosystem into our app, e.g. app clips, widgets, Carplay, etc.
04. Architect and develop internal libraries to support cross-team needs
05. Drive best practices in software design, code quality, and system performance
06. Lead code reviews and champion engineering practices across the team
07. Conduct architecture reviews and provide constructive feedback to other team members
08. Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to understand business and technical requirements and translate them into functional software
09. Identify and solve complex technical challenges to optimize application performance and scalability
10. Design, implement, and maintain new features and enhancements to our app
11. Identify and troubleshoot issues, perform debugging and testing, and continuously improve the performance and stability of our application
12. Build internal AI powered tools to optimize engineering time spent oncall
13. Provide technical guidance and consultation to cross-functional teams

Basic Qualifications

01. 5+ years software engineering experience
02. Strong expertise in the Swift programming language
03. Deep understanding of iOS SDKs and iOS engineering
04. Up to date on the latest trends and advancements in the iOS ecosystem, to incorporate them into our development process
05. Product development experience
06. Communication skills and an ability to work in a team and with cross platform stakeholders
07. Participation in the entire software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and deployment
08. Experience with writing, releasing, maintaining mobile applications
09. Metric/data driven approach to problem solving
10. Bias for action when finding issues or problems that need solutions

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in designing and implementing large-scale mobile applications
2. Familiarity with modern software development practices (e.g. CI/CD, version control)
3. Contribution to open source or other active involvement in the iOS community
4. Leadership and communication abilities, with experience mentoring junior engineers
5. Experience defining a roadmap for an technical initiative, collaborating with or leading other engineers
6. Experience monitoring and analyzing the performance of a mobile application
7. Understanding of microservices architecture, gRPC, and RESTful APIs
8. Track record of driving technical strategy within a team

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$202,000 per year - USD$224,000 per year.
