ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a Transmission Engineer to join project teams responsible for creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments involving underground and overhead high voltage transmission lines. The Transmission Engineer will collaborate with project teams throughout the design and construction process, adapting transmission plans to meet budget constraints, design factors, and client needs. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and clients.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Perform transmission design for projects from conceptual phase through design completion
  • Modify and review transmission components based on project requirements set forth by project managers
  • Prepare transmission equipment specifications, data sheets, Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations
  • Conduct economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance, and grounding calculations/studies
  • Compile calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC or other applicable codes and resources
  • Interpret and apply necessary NERC, FERC, and regional requirements and standards
  • Apply strong knowledge of commonly used transmission engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers; compile studies and reports; write specifications
  • Update and verify corrections in drawings provided by senior engineers using multiple CAD-related software
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for a variety of facility types
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients
  • Collaborate with project teams and adapt transmission plans to budget, design, or client needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in transmission engineering; 5 years preferred
  • Prior consulting experience strongly preferred
  • Successful completion (passing) FE or EIT preferred
  • Strong knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment; demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and PLS-CADD
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
