With a wide variety of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Develop, deploy and support cloud-hosted services and interfaces across Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), including container-hosted applications on Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS.
  • Design, develop and maintain web applications, portals and RESTful backend services supporting connected products and cloud platforms.
  • Implement end-to-end security for web services and APIs, including transport-layer security (HTTPS/TLS), AES encryption, key management and secure data handling in transit and at rest.
  • Support and enhance quality-inspection web interfaces for capturing and managing inspection images, recipes, and logs.
  • Build and maintain IoT connectivity between mobile/web applications and embedded devices (e.g., BLE-connected locators and transmitters).
  • Develop and integrate AI-assisted interfaces, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and other LLM-based services.
  • Design and maintain data storage, APIs and integration layers connecting devices, applications and cloud back-ends.
  • Collaborate closely with firmware, hardware, data-science and product teams, and coordinate with external development partners, to deliver reliable end-to-end solutions.
  • Support software architecture, integration, testing, deployment, and CI/CD across mobile, web and cloud environments.
  • Communicate technical results and program status to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive the development and commercialization of connected products and digital services that
  • Deliver value to customers around the world.

  • Experience with native mobile development (Swift for iOS, Kotlin/Java for Android) and app-store release/deployment.
  • Hands-on experience across both AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud ecosystems.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS).
  • Experience integrating AI/ML or LLM services, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases and pipeline/prompt design.
  • Experience with IoT and device connectivity, including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and cloud device/data ingestion.
  • Experience designing relational and/or NoSQL databases and data modeling.
