Senior RF Engineer / In-Building Wireless (IBW) Consultant

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior RF Engineer / In-Building Wireless (IBW) Consultant to support public safety communications systems and commercial 4G/5G wireless infrastructure initiatives. This role requires deep expertise in Land Mobile Radio (LMR), P25 systems, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), and FirstNet integration.

The consultant will provide engineering leadership, technical assessments, compliance review, and hands-on field support for public safety radio and in-building wireless systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Support radio system infrastructure projects and subscriber deployments
• Design, test, and implement Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) supporting FirstNet and P25
• Perform RF coverage design including antennas, link budgets, and propagation analysis
• Conduct drive testing for P25 and 4G/5G systems
• Perform interference analysis and resolve network coverage issues
• Support encryption and OTAR upgrades
• Develop fleetmaps, code plugs, and program radios (public safety environment preferred)
• Review and approve In-Building Wireless (IBW) proposals for compliance
• Develop IBW system implementation requirements and technical guidelines
• Conduct field surveys of BDA installations
• Provide FCC licensing support
• Support feature upgrades in coordination with equipment vendors
• Develop radio training materials and internal technical documentation
• Perform hardware/software performance analysis and comparative evaluations
• Provide research, reporting, and technical assessments aligned with industry standard

  Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 11+ years of experience as a Subject Matter Expert on complex enterprise-level projects
  • 6+ years of wireless communications experience (theory and practical application)
  • 5+ years working in public safety radio communications and DAS systems
  • 3+ years of interoperable radio experience
  • 3+ years integrating P25 and 4G/5G DAS infrastructure
  • 3+ years using RF engineering tools for 4G and LMR coverage simulation
  • 3+ years drive testing P25 and 4G/5G systems
  • 3+ years performing radio network coverage and interference analysis
  • 3+ years experience designing, implementing, testing, and troubleshooting IBW systems
  • 3+ years troubleshooting LMR, 4G/5G, and DAS systems
  • 3+ years experience with P25 radio networks and public safety infrastructure
  • Knowledge of LTE and P25 standards
  • Experience with DAS operations and interference management

  Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing fleetmaps, code plugs, and programming radios in public safety environments
