Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer with strong hands-on expertise in NetCOBOL, SQL, and Unix/Linux shell scripting to support enterprise application development, enhancement, maintenance, and production support.

The ideal candidate must have practical experience developing and maintaining COBOL-based applications, working with relational databases such as Sybase, writing and optimizing SQL queries, and using Unix/Linux shell scripts for batch processing and automation.

The role involves troubleshooting complex application and database issues, implementing enhancements, supporting legacy systems, and ensuring application stability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. COBOL Application Development

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications using NetCOBOL.

• Work with Micro Focus COBOL and other COBOL-based legacy application environments.

• Analyze existing application code and implement enhancements based on business requirements.

• Perform coding, debugging, testing, and maintenance activities.

• Develop and support batch processing applications and application workflows.

2. SQL & Database Development

• Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL queries for application requirements.

• Work with Sybase databases for data retrieval, manipulation, and processing.

• Perform database troubleshooting and query performance optimization.

• Analyze data-related issues and ensure data accuracy and consistency.

• Support database integration with COBOL applications.

3. Unix/Linux Shell Scripting

• Develop and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for batch processing and automation.

• Automate application execution, file processing, job scheduling, and operational tasks.

• Monitor batch jobs and troubleshoot execution failures.

• Support application deployment and production operations in Unix/Linux environments.

4. Application Maintenance & Production Support

• Troubleshoot and resolve application defects, production incidents, and performance issues.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.

• Support application releases, enhancements, and maintenance activities.

• Ensure application reliability, availability, and operational stability.

• Maintain technical documentation and support procedures.

5. Development & Delivery

• Analyze technical requirements and translate them into scalable application solutions.

• Participate in code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and release activities.

• Collaborate with business analysts, database teams, infrastructure teams, and other technical stakeholders.

• Follow established SDLC processes and enterprise development standards.

Mandatory Technical Skills

• 10+ years of experience in COBOL application development and maintenance.

• Strong hands-on experience with NetCOBOL - Mandatory.

• Strong SQL development and database troubleshooting experience.

• Experience working with Sybase databases.

• Proficiency in Unix/Linux shell scripting.

• Experience in application development, debugging, enhancements, and production support.

• Strong understanding of batch processing and legacy application environments.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Micro Focus COBOL.

• Enterprise COBOL / IBM System z.

• Mainframe application development and support.

• Database performance tuning and optimization.

Experience & Education

• 10+ years of relevant professional experience in COBOL development.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
