Summary

Overview

The Future Plant Studies (FPS) group has openings for highly motivated engineers to support the development of a new propulsion plant design for VIRGINIA Class Block VllI and the follow-on propulsion plant design for SSN(X). The next propulsion plant design will be the most advanced the Navy has ever fielded which presents significant challenges that must be overcome. Since the design of the propulsion plant is in its infancy, there is maximum potential to influence the overall design and begin or transition your career to a new program that is on the ground floor. The candidate will work in a structural engineering project group whose purpose is to develop future submarine propulsion plant concepts that meet the Navy's challenging technical goals while minimizing development, acquisition and life cycle costs. In order to achieve this, the candidate will lead teams to develop these new ideas and concepts and work to bring them to fruition.

Responsibilities include concept development for future propulsion plants including structural concepts and analysis (major module structures), as well as arrangement integration (where things are located on the boat). Frequent interface with multiple Electric Boat engineering disciplines, Newport News Shipbuilding, vendors, Naval Nuclear Laboratories, and NAVSEA is required.

This is your opportunity to make your mark on the most advanced submarine design in the world.
