Overview
Our client, a growing organization within the Oil & Gas and Power Generation sector, is seeking a highly technical and business-focused consultant to join their Application Support team supporting the Project Execution business unit. This opportunity is a backfill for a long-term employee nearing retirement and requires an individual capable of bridging business analysis, application support, process improvement, and hands-on development responsibilities.
This team supports operational and engineering-related initiatives tied to natural gas pipelines, power generation, commissioning activities, inspections, and large-scale engineering/construction operations.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating in a hybrid Business Systems Analyst (BSA) and Developer capacity - gathering requirements directly from the business while also contributing technically to solution design, automation, and application development efforts.
A major emphasis for this role is leveraging modern AI tools and platforms to accelerate documentation, development, testing, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a hybrid Technical Business Systems Analyst and Developer supporting operational and engineering-focused applications.
- Partner directly with stakeholders across power generation, engineering, construction, and pipeline operations to gather and document business requirements.
- Utilize AI-driven tools such as Copilot, Claude, Cursor, Perplexity, and similar technologies to accelerate:
- Requirements gathering
- Test case generation
- Documentation creation
- Development workflows
- Process automation
- Support the digitization of operational forms and workflows currently managed through Excel-based processes.
- Assist in transforming commissioning, inspection, and field operation processes into scalable internal application solutions.
- Contribute to the enhancement and automation of engineering-related tools and operational workflows.
- Participate in solution design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing application support activities.
- Collaborate closely with application support, engineering, and operations teams to improve efficiency and modernization initiatives.
- Help identify opportunities for AI adoption and workflow optimization across the business unit.
Required Experience
- Strong experience functioning as both a Business Systems Analyst and technical application developer.
- Proven ability to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Hands-on experience utilizing AI productivity and development tools such as:
- Microsoft Copilot
- Claude
- Cursor
- Perplexity
- Similar AI-assisted development/documentation tools
- Experience supporting operational or enterprise business applications.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while engaging effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred / Desired Experience
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform technologies including:
- Power Apps
- Canvas Apps
- Power Automate
- Code Apps
- Development experience with Java or related technologies.
- Exposure to Microsoft Azure environments and services.
- Experience supporting engineering, construction, utilities, oil & gas, energy, or power generation organizations.
- Familiarity with operational workflows related to inspections, commissioning, field operations, or engineering execution.
