Duration: Long-Term Contract (Multi-Year Opportunity)
Our client is seeking a
Senior Mainframe Applications Developer to join a highly experienced team supporting mission-critical systems.
This position is a unique opportunity to work directly with a senior subject matter expert prior to retirement and participate in a structured knowledge transfer process. The selected candidate will assume ownership of a critical suite of applications while helping support ongoing modernization initiatives and mainframe-to-modern-platform migrations.
What You'll Be Doing- Support, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance enterprise mainframe applications.
- Analyze and modify existing COBOL applications and legacy codebases.
- Debug complex production and application issues.
- Participate in application modernization and migration initiatives.
- Assist with API integrations and cross-platform data exchanges.
- Collaborate with development teams working in other technologies and platforms.
- Perform impact analysis and identify dependencies across interconnected systems.
- Participate in knowledge transfer activities with senior application SMEs.
- Support SOX-regulated order-to-cash business applications.
Required Qualifications- 7+ years of IBM z/OS Mainframe Development experience.
- Advanced experience with:
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Experience maintaining and enhancing existing enterprise applications.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Experience throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting application modernization initiatives.
- Experience working with APIs and system integrations.
- Familiarity with scheduling and batch processing tools such as CA7, Tidal, FTP, or similar technologies.

Work Environment- Standard schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern.
- Preference for candidates located in Richmond, VA or within driving distance for occasional onsite collaboration.
- Remote candidates in Virginia or the Mid-Atlantic region will be considered.
- Limited production support responsibilities with occasional early-morning issue investigation when needed.
