Primary Responsibilities
The Network Administrator installs, configures, and supports an organization''s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system.
- Maintain network hardware and software
- Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability
- May supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures
- Coordinate the development, implementation, and maintenance of a local area network or wide area network
- Maintain the network''s physical and logical structures, including network connections
- Maintain network support software, analyze user support statistics, and recommend appropriate measures
- Install, test, and maintain network hardware and software
- Prepare and analyze statistics on network utilization and availability
- Prepare training courses and provide user support and training in the use of available hardware, software, and utilities
- Perform tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources
- Assess existing network, software, and current solutions and make recommendations based on product specifications and best cybersecurity practices
- Configure equipment and software to meet business needs, train others on the solution, and document the solution for ongoing support
- Function as part of a team on larger projects, or individually provide the services on support visits or smaller projects
- Provide technical support and assist with the design of Infrastructure solutions
Technical Skills and Experience
Requires experience in the technical services and support fields as well as experience in network administration (DHCP, DNS, routers, firewall, etc.)
- Respond to Tier 1 and 2 network and software support requests
- Communicate effectively with teammates and customers of varying levels of technical expertise
- Respond to all break/fix requests associated with network resources
- Design extensions of and connections to the campus network
- Assist with configuration and deployment of new/replacement network hardware and communications infrastructure
- Maintain up-to-date project and architecture documentation
- Maintain up-to-date inventory and maintenance records
- Monitor network resources for faults and traffic anomalies
- Resolve connection issues between users and resources
- Maintain detailed change history of network changes
- Support ITS Field Maintenance with communications'' implementation and troubleshooting
- Support team efforts to improve cybersecurity controls and defenses
- Support team efforts for threat hunting and mitigation
- Manage time and resource constraints
