We are seeking an experienced Data Modeler who plays a critical role in establishing and sustaining a trusted, interoperable data foundation across the utility enterprise. This position is responsible for translating complex electric-utility business concepts into consistent, standards-based data models using the IEC Common Information Model (CIM) as the authoritative semantic framework.

A core responsibility of the role is maintaining alignment between abstract CIM standards and real-world utility implementations. This includes evaluating CIM gaps, managing extensions, guiding proper profile usage, and ensuring that physical and logical data models remain traceable back to CIM concepts. Data Modeler also plays a key role in supporting data governance, acting as a steward of semantic integrity, definitions, and modeling best practices.

Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain CIM-based logical and physical data models aligned to IEC standards (61970, 61968, 62325).
Create and manage CIM Profiles (UML, RDF/XML, JSON-LD) tailored to utility use cases.
Interpret and apply CIM extensions for utility-specific requirements (distribution, transmission, DER, markets).
Ensure semantic consistency across systems using CIM as the canonical data model.
Support system-to-system integration designs
Map source-system schemas to CIM classes, attributes, and relationships.
Enable analytics and AI use cases by aligning operational and business data into analytics-ready models.
Support data-lake and lakehouse architectures with curated CIM-based data structures.
Maintain business and technical metadata, definitions, and relationships within a data catalog.
Define and enforce data standards, naming conventions, and modeling best practices.
Participate in data governance activities including stewardship reviews and change control.
Assist with data-quality rule definition and semantic validation.
Review backlog items and modeling requests supporting data lake ingestion and integration
Collaborate with data engineers and system SMEs to understand source-system data
Map source-system data to CIM classes, attributes, and relationships
Define and maintain CIM profiles used by the data lake
Validate transformation logic against CIM semantic intent
Support architecture and integration design discussions
Ensure curated data models are analytics-ready and consistent
Define and maintain business definitions and technical metadata
Identify and resolve semantic or data-quality issues
Document modeling decisions and participate in governance reviews

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years Hands-on experience with IEC CIM (61970, 61968, and/or 62325).
Strong understanding of electric utility operations
Experience with logical and physical data modeling techniques.
Familiarity with UML, relational modeling, and semantic modeling concepts.
Experience mapping operational systems (WAMS, WACS, MSCS)
Experience supporting utility data lakes or analytics platforms (AWS, Databricks).
Knowledge of RDF, OWL, semantic graphs, or knowledge graphs.
Familiarity with ESRI Utility Network, Oracle Utilities, or similar utility platforms.
Experience with metadata management and data catalog tools.
Understanding of utility regulatory and compliance requirements.
Excellent communication skills
