What you'll do:

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient API solutions that drive growth across AT&T Business's multi-billion-dollar Direct and Indirect Sales channels. This hands-on role is pivotal in delivering future-state architecture, optimizing API performance and enabling seamless integration across diverse systems, directly enhancing customer experience and accelerating sales.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

API Design and Development:
  • Design and document API solutions with a comprehensive analysis of technical trade-offs, considering both functional and non-functional requirements (NFRs) to support intricate sales channels.
  • Integrate systems by adhering to MuleSoft best practices and industry standards.
  • Enhance the solution's reusability, security, and performance by applying relevant concepts and patterns.

API Platform Optimization & Operational Excellence:
  • To ensure our API platform performs optimally and remains stable, we must maintain and enhance the existing APIs while also developing new integrations to meet business requirements.
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 level analysis/support, including performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
  • Partner seamlessly with internal teams such as Product Managers, Technology Production Support, Service Delivery, Mobility and Wireline Product Marketing, Chief Security Office, Sales Channels, and CSI/AIM.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, System Engineers, and development teams to ensure seamless integration.

  • Hands on experience in delivering large scale API integrations.
  • Strong analytical and multi-tasking abilities to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leads critical, high-visibility projects that directly impact multi-billion dollar sales channels.
  • A proactive problem-solver with the ability to lead complex integrations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure seamless execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Implement integration technology using MuleSoft best practices and leading standards.
  • Apply concepts and patterns to promote security and performance in the solution.
  • Design API layers, data models, and API specifications based on appropriate functional and technical requirements..
  • Develop APIs using MuleSoft platform components, including API Manager, CloudHub/RTF, AnyPoint Studio, Dataweave, Connectors, Design Center, and AnyPoint Messaging Queue (MQ).
  • Follow MuleSoft development best practices, ensuring solution performance and system scalability.
  • Leverage AI to drive optimization and efficiency across deliverables.
  • Create necessary documentation, give presentations to business clients, and obtain necessary approvals.
  • Test and improve API performance in terms of response time, reliability, and resource usage.
  • Write Dataweave expressions to transform data, control message content, flow, and processing.
  • Design and implement comprehensive error handling strategies for applications.
  • Drive continuous integration and delivery of APIs using DevOps tools.
  • Configure and deploy Mule applications to CloudHub and/or customer-hosted Mule runtimes.
  • Implement and consume REST and SOAP web services.
  • Create and configure flows, subflows, and flow processing strategies for reusability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues with APIs, identify the source of the issue, and work with the appropriate team to resolve it.
  • Experience in API performance optimization and observability tooling, dashboards desired.
  • Possess basic knowledge of MCP, Salesforce and Node.js.

What you'll bring:
  • Designs and implements complex API solutions that enable strategic, high-value sales initiatives, directly contributing to revenue growth and market competitiveness.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) desired in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in API architecture, integration, and development.
  • Proven expertise in Java, MuleSoft and experience in Azure, MongoDB, CI/CD Pipeline and GitHub.
  • Certifications in MuleSoft a plus.

Our Lead Software Engineering, earns between $158,200-$237,400 USD Annual, Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
