Job Description:

Our Team

Chewy's Content Platform team builds the systems that power how content is created, targeted, and experienced across chewy.com. We partner closely with product, design, and engineering partners across the business to launch new capabilities that improve discovery, engagement, and overall site experience on Chewy's highest-traffic pages. As a highly visible team, we focus on scalable architecture, strong design systems, and pragmatic governance - moving quickly while maintaining a high bar for quality, performance, and reliability.

Your Role

As a Software Engineer II, you'll help shape and deliver the next generation of Chewy's customer-facing experiences by designing, building, and evolving our architecture and features for content targeting. You'll act as a technical leader within the team - bringing strong engineering judgment, clarity on design principles, and an eye toward operational impact - while collaborating with engineering leadership and mentoring teammates. You'll be hands-on in implementation, driving solutions that scale, ship quickly, and measurably improve the experience for Chewy customers.

What You'll Do
  • Evolve and grow our world-class Chewy Content targeting experience, serving personalized content to our millions of visitors.
  • Immerse yourself in imagining and providing ground breaking solutions to build high-performance, low-latency web and mobile-web experiences.
  • Have a relentless focus on scalability, latency, performance robustness, and cost trade-offs -- especially those present in highly virtualized, elastic, cloud-based environments.
  • Effectively communicate with key partners across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization.
  • Display excellent verbal and written communication and be able to convey dissenting opinions in a constructive manner, particularly written communications.

What You'll Need
  • Full stack experience: 4+ years of industry experience in software development with proven expertise in React, GraphQL, and Java (Kotlin)
  • Strong proven ability building high-performance, highly-available and scalable distributed systems
  • Familiarity with cloud native technology stacks and service-oriented architecture
  • Clear understanding of emerging technologies and ability to apply those principles in solving critical business needs
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or a related field) or equivalent work experience

Bonus
  • Experience building ecommerce products or products that are ecommerce scale
  • Experience working with AWS technologies, Kubernetes
  • Experience with DynamoDB or related database technologies
  • Experience with automated testing tools such as Cypress or Playwright

The base salary range for this role is $115,000 - $190,000.00.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

We offer different types of insurance and benefits, such as medical/Rx, vision, dental, life, disability, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident. We offer parental leave, family services benefits, backup dependent care, flexible spending accounts, telemedicine, pet adoption reimbursement, employee assistance program, and many discounts including 10% off pet insurance and 20% off at Chewy.com.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
