IT Training Specialist

This IT Training Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive IT training program for customers of the IU Office of Clinical Research (OCR). The development of training materials focuses primarily on research systems software managed by the OCR Research Systems Team; however, it also includes development of eLearning modules and other materials for use by various teams within the department. This position often works independently to create training materials and resources, but collaborates with other members of the OCR and their customers on content inclusion.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Interacts effectively with internal infrastructure groups to leverage the resources required to meet the technical needs of all projects
• Monitors support tickets in collaboration with the OCR Research Systems team and assists with tracking identified issues, their priorities, and resolutions
• Provides consultation services for OCR customers requiring assistance with documentation, educational materials related to research processes, and systems
• Collaborates with operations and support personnel to ensure effective communication and documentation of standards and best practices for research system data
• Establishes, oversees, and maintains various vehicles of communication and awareness such as website information, presentations, program materials, announcements, emails, etc.
• Assists application administrators in enforcing data entry requirements

General Responsibilities

• Analyzes IT training needs to design and implement training programs; develops training materials and maintains assessment information for IT user training resources
• Delivers IT training presentations and updates materials and resources regularly to address common problems/issues
• Ensures adherence to accessibility standards and/or universal design principals in presentations and documentation
• Generates reports and statistics regarding IT training efforts/initiatives and provides analysis for ongoing assessment purposes
• Collaborates on various committees to identify ongoing IT training and education opportunities
• Stays up-to-date on latest IT user support request trends; researches and stays current on education and training best practices, philosophies, and approaches
• Measures and reports success of training programs; keeps leaders apprised of IT training gaps and recommends initiatives to address common issues

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer information systems, computer science, or a related field)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 2 years developing and/or delivering computing education and technical computing support training or a related experience

Preferred

• Experience working in an academic healthcare environment or clinical research setting
• Experience supporting clinical research operations and providing guidance
• Experience developing and delivering computer-based training and software functionality demos to end-users with varying degrees of experience

• Experience working in or supporting a clinical research management system, specifically OnCore
• Experience working in an electronic medical record system, specifically Epic
• Proficient in process development and documentation
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with teams.
• Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and analytical skills
• Knowledge of applicable federal/state/university regulations and policies pertaining to protected health information
• Knowledge of IU's data classifications and applicable federal/state/university regulations and policies on protected health information
• Knowledge of organizational system usage and understanding of clinical research processes and workflows to develop a training program that meets the needs of the clinical research community.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

This is a fully remote position. However, this is subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
