Responsibilities

Responsible for technical contributions to the Electronics Shop's development projects, maintenance work, and operations support; including the design, construction, prototyping, testing, implementation, maintenance, evaluation and documentation of custom electronics circuits and facility electrical systems in support of the NHMFL user program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designs, assembles, tests, installs, implements, evaluates and documents the development of dedicated electronics and circuitry for power systems, equipment control and monitoring, magnet protection systems, and similar.
  • Responsible for preventively maintaining and upgrading permanent facility equipment such as control systems, safety systems and power supplies.
  • Designs instrumentation and data acquisition systems utilizing off-the-shelf commercial components and original design elements. Works with researchers in developing system requirements.
  • Interfaces with scientist and research groups to define electronics system needs and performance parameters. Interfaces with facility engineers and stakeholders in the design of electro-mechanical apparatus and instruments.
  • Performs modifications and design changes on commercially purchased test equipment, develops prototype electronics packaging and PC layout. Documents and designs using CAD software and performs circuit and system simulations.
  • Advances, applies and is a part of the NHMFL safety program by active participation in program development and via a proactive safety posture. Contributes to outreach efforts to the general public.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and three years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and seven years of experience. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
  • Additional experience qualifies candidates for higher-level consideration (III-VI). Each level requires three additional years of experience.
