AWS Neptune Expert Job Description

Role Summary

The AWS Neptune Expert is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing graph database solutions using Amazon Neptune. The role involves building scalable graph-based data models, integrating Neptune with enterprise data systems, and supporting advanced analytics use cases such as recommendation engines, fraud detection, and relationship mapping.


Key Responsibilities

1. Graph Database Architecture

  • Design and implement scalable graph database solutions using Amazon Neptune.

  • Develop graph data models including nodes, edges, and properties.

  • Design high-performance graph queries using Gremlin and SPARQL.

  • Optimize graph traversal and query performance.

2. Data Engineering & Integration

  • Integrate Neptune with data sources such as:

    • Data warehouses

    • Data lakes

    • Transactional systems

  • Build ingestion pipelines using AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, or Amazon Kinesis.

  • Implement bulk data loading using Neptune loaders.

3. Application Development

  • Develop backend services using languages such as:

    • Python

    • Java

    • Node.js

  • Build APIs that interact with Neptune graph databases.

  • Implement graph analytics and recommendation algorithms.

4. Performance Optimization

  • Monitor database performance and query execution.

  • Optimize graph indexing and query patterns.

  • Implement caching strategies and scaling mechanisms.

5. Security & Governance

  • Implement access control using AWS IAM.

  • Configure encryption, backup, and disaster recovery.

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies.


Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Strong expertise in Amazon Neptune

  • Graph database concepts

  • Graph data modeling

  • Gremlin or SPARQL query development

  • Data architecture and distributed systems

Technical Skills

  • Programming: Python, Java, or Node.js

  • AWS ecosystem knowledge

  • REST API development

  • Data pipeline development

AWS Services Knowledge

Experience with:

  • AWS Glue

  • AWS Lambda

  • Amazon S3

  • Amazon EC2

  • Amazon Kinesis


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with other graph databases like Neo4j or JanusGraph

  • Knowledge of semantic web technologies (RDF, OWL)

  • Experience building knowledge graphs or recommendation systems

  • Familiarity with big data platforms such as Apache Spark


Experience Requirements

  • Expert / Architect: 8 12+ years in data engineering or database architecture

  • 3 5 years experience with graph databases

  • Hands-on experience implementing solutions with Amazon Neptune
