Job Details

As a Junior Estimator, you'll work alongside experienced Estimators, Project Managers, design professionals, and subcontractors to support projects from conceptual design and preconstruction through final pricing and turnover to operations. You'll gain hands-on experience developing budgets, performing takeoffs, soliciting subcontractor pricing, reviewing scopes, and evaluating design decisions from a cost and constructability standpoint.

Build your estimating career where great ideas become real projects. We're seeking a Permanent Junior Estimator to join our design-build construction team and help turn early concepts into accurate, competitive proposals.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates using drawings, specifications, conceptual designs, and other project documents.
  • Use HCSS or equivalent estimating software to develop, organize, and maintain estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.
  • Support design-build budgeting as designs evolve, identifying changes in scope and their potential cost impacts.
  • Request and review subcontractor and supplier quotations, compare pricing, and help identify scope gaps, exclusions, and overlaps.
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to assess constructability, clarify requirements, and explore cost-effective alternatives.
  • Assist with bid packages, proposal submissions, estimate summaries, and supporting documentation.
  • Research material pricing, equipment costs, labor productivity, and market conditions to support reliable estimates.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews as needed.
  • Maintain organized estimating records, pricing databases, and supplier and subcontractor information.
  • Help transition awarded projects to the project delivery team by communicating estimate assumptions, scope details, and cost considerations.

Qualifications:

  • 0-3 years of experience in construction estimating, preconstruction, or a closely related role.
  • Hands-on experience with HCSS estimating software or an equivalent construction estimating platform.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scope documents.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, labor, equipment, and cost components.
  • Experience preparing quantity takeoffs, reviewing quotations, and supporting detailed cost estimates.
  • Familiarity with design-build delivery and the ability to work with evolving designs and incomplete information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with digital estimating and document management tools.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and organizational skills, with close attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines, ask thoughtful questions, and take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • A degree or diploma in construction management, civil engineering, quantity surveying, or a related field is preferred; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
