The Opportunity
Client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Robotics & Automation engineering team. This group builds intelligent automation solutions that support critical airline operations and the customer journey, including passenger processing, reservations, seat assignments, upgrades, loyalty, customer recognition, and operational recovery.
Despite the "Robotics" name, this is not a traditional RPA role. The platform is built around backend services, APIs, event-driven architecture, rule engines, schedulers, orchestration services, and automated decisioning systems that integrate with JetBlue's core airline platforms.
The ideal candidate is a strong backend engineer who enjoys solving complex business problems, working across distributed systems, and owning applications from design and development through deployment, monitoring, and production support.
What You'll Work On
• Design and develop scalable Java/Spring Boot microservices, APIs, event consumers, schedulers, and automation services
• Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows capable of handling high volumes of passenger, reservation, and flight activity
• Develop configurable business rules and automated decisioning capabilities
• Integrate automation services with reservation, passenger, airport, loyalty, flight, and operational systems
• Design resilient applications using appropriate retry, idempotency, error handling, reconciliation, and recovery patterns
• Build solutions that remain reliable when upstream or downstream systems are unavailable or degraded
• Troubleshoot complex production issues using application logs, metrics, traces, SQL, and operational data
• Work with Snowflake and SQL to investigate system behavior and measure automation performance
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, deployment, and production readiness
• Collaborate closely with Product, Operations, business stakeholders, architects, and other engineering teams
Core Technical Skills
Candidates should have strong experience across several of the following:

• Event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing
• Distributed systems
• Messaging, service bus, or event-streaming platforms
• Azure or comparable cloud environments
• Kubernetes and containerized applications
• CI/CD pipelines
• SQL and relational data
• Snowflake or similar analytical platforms
• Application logging, monitoring, metrics, and distributed tracing
• Production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
What Client Is Looking For
This team is looking for a senior-level engineer who thinks beyond simply writing code. Strong candidates will understand how individual services interact within a larger ecosystem and naturally consider reliability, scalability, failure scenarios, and operational impact when designing software.
You should be comfortable:
• Owning complex technical problems from requirements through production
• Working with distributed and eventually consistent systems
• Designing for duplicate, delayed, or out-of-order events
• Building safeguards around high-volume automated transactions
• Troubleshooting issues that span multiple systems and services
• Translating complex or ambiguous business requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Communicating technical decisions with both engineering and business stakeholders
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following is a plus but not required:
• Airline or travel technology
• Operational automation
• High-volume transaction processing
• Rule engines or decisioning platforms
• Event-driven enterprise applications
• Complex integration environments
