Job Title: Cognos BI Test Engineer – Legacy Modernization & Data Validation
Location: Richardson, TX (Hybrid)
Duration: 6 Months

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Cognos BI Test Engineer to support an enterprise application modernization project. The candidate will be responsible for testing modernized applications, validating IBM Cognos BI reports converted from Crystal Reports, testing REST APIs, and ensuring data accuracy during migration from legacy VB.NET applications to modern Java Spring Boot and ReactJS platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and regression test suites.
- Perform functional testing of ReactJS applications and validate functionality against legacy VB.NET systems.
- Test REST APIs, backend services, and Java Spring Boot microservices.
- Validate IBM Cognos BI reports migrated from legacy Crystal Reports.
- Perform data reconciliation and report validation using SQL queries.
- Verify data integrity and accuracy during database migration.
- Identify, document, track, and retest defects using Jira or similar tools.
- Support System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Perform API, integration, and regression testing to ensure application quality.
Required Skills
- 7+ years of software testing or QA experience; 8+ years preferred.
- Hands-on experience with IBM Cognos BI report testing.
- Experience with Crystal Reports validation or migration.
- Strong SQL skills for data validation and reconciliation.
- Experience with REST API testing using Postman or SoapUI.
- Knowledge of Java Spring Boot applications and ReactJS frontends.
- Experience testing legacy VB.NET applications.
- Familiarity with Jira, defect tracking, and test management tools.
- Understanding of functional, integration, regression, SIT, and UAT testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in legacy application modernization or migration projects.
- Exposure to Selenium, Cypress, Jest, or other test automation frameworks.
- Experience with API automation tools such as RestAssured.
- Knowledge of SQL Server and relational databases.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
