Position Summary: As a project manager within the Corporate IT department at VGM, your primary purpose is to manage the complete life-cycle of Information Technology projects. You will design, plan, test, and implement solutions for single or multiple projects across all VGM divisions. In collaboration with other business units, the Project Manager will ensure timely and accurate delivery of strategic solutions. With any IT project, we anticipate dynamic change management may need to occur to keep a project on track and deliver business value. In this role, you will be the subject matter expert keeping teams on task to ensure satisfactory results. 

Reporting Accountability: Senior Director of Project Management Office 

Working Location: On-site in Waterloo, Iowa preferred'' but Hybrid or Remote options can be possible 

Working Hours Classification: Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm+ 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage strategic projects, coordinating and planning as needed to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Analyze project proposals to determine time frame, funding limitations and appropriate process for accomplishing projects across all VGM divisions.
  • Identify and schedule project deliverables, milestones and assign scope of authority and duties to appropriate project personnel (whom you will also identify across all VGM divisions).
  • Define, deliver, and support strategic plans for implementing technology-driven solutions.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the entire project life cycle, communicating expectations and plans from initiation to completion.
  • Perform risk assessment and implement mitigation plans.
  • Review status reports prepared by project personnel and modify schedules or plans as required.
  • Establish standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation.
  • Engage in the project change control process and attend technical reviews.
  • Act as a liaison between business and technical teams to ensure clarity and alignment. 
  • Partner with the business community to analyze data to identify trends, inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for automation or process improvements.
  • Gain an understanding of the complexity of requests and evaluate feasibility.
  • Understand, document and communicate stakeholder processes and requirements to the technical team using current and future state workflows. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create test plans.
  • Facilitate and track testing progress, including resolution of identified issues.
  • Assess impact of proposed changes on processes and systems.
  • Continuously benchmark project management performance to identify improvements and provide thought leadership to achieve higher capability maturity in PPM.
  • Other duties that would require project management expertise as required and assigned – keeping projects on track is important.
  • Perform other duties and complete other projects as assigned.

Key Qualifications: 

Education and experience:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, project management or related field.
  • 2+ years of project management experience within an IT department, in a role dedicated to business problem solving.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated competency in a project management role involving the execution of multiple enterprise-level or company-wide projects simultaneously.
  • 2+ years of experience in a role with business analyst responsibilities, specifically solving technical problems with a focus on business operations.  
  • Advanced understanding of Agile/Scrum, Project Management, and SDLC practices. 
  • Experience eliciting business requirements and translating them into clear, concise details within user stories.  
  • PMP Certification preferred.  

Skills and competencies:

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (for example, PMI, SCRUM, and Agile).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in business, IT and financial; expertise in setting and managing customer expectations.
  • Effective influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are employing them to drive digital business is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a project resource plan that ensures that the right people are in the right place doing the right things at the right time.
Physical Requirements:  
  • Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment.        
  • Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision.  
  • Moving throughout the VGM facilities when needed.
