Director of Data Engineering

We have a client that is seeking a hands-on Director of Data Engineering to lead, scale, and actively contribute to a modern cloud-based data platform. This is a builder–leader role requiring deep technical expertise, strong people leadership, and accountability for delivery outcomes. The Director will be responsible for engineering execution, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership while remaining embedded in the AWS and Snowflake ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute hands-on to data architecture, design, and implementation

• Build and maintain modern data pipelines across ingestion, transformation, and modeling

• Operate within AWS (Lambdas, S3, ECS, EC2, containerized workloads)

• Partner in ownership and optimization of Snowflake environments

• Apply medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers)

• Balance long-term architecture with near-term delivery

• Drive delivery velocity while maintaining data quality and security

• Directly manage and develop a team of data engineers

• Conduct weekly 1:1s and performance management

• Build strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders

Required Experience

• 10+ years of data engineering experience

• Senior leadership experience (Director, Principal, or Architect level)

• Deep AWS expertise

• Strong data modeling and pipeline architecture background

• Proven ability to lead while remaining hands-on

• High EQ with the ability to hold teams accountable

Nice to Have

• Snowflake platform ownership

• Insurance or financial services experience

• Experience working with sensitive or regulated data
