IT Field Engineering Manager
Location: Lehigh Valley, PA A growing IT consulting and managed services organization based in the Lehigh Valley is seeking an experienced
IT Field Engineering Manager to lead and oversee client-facing infrastructure projects and field engineering operations.
This role is responsible for managing the successful planning, coordination, and execution of infrastructure deployments-including server implementations, VoIP phone systems, network installations, and ongoing client IT initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with leadership capability and excels in client-facing environments.
As the primary technical leader for infrastructure engagements, you will ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with client expectations. You will manage multiple concurrent initiatives while guiding field engineers, coordinating internal resources, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
This position is ideal for a hands-on infrastructure professional who thrives in a fast-paced consulting environment and enjoys leading teams while staying engaged in technical execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage infrastructure projects from initial planning through final implementation
- Oversee field engineering activities, including server deployments, VoIP phone system installations, and network implementations
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients during infrastructure initiatives
- Coordinate internal engineering teams and external vendors to ensure successful project delivery
- Manage project timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and scope control
- Ensure thorough documentation of configurations, deployments, and infrastructure changes
- Utilize ConnectWise (or similar PSA/project management tools) to track project progress, milestones, and issues
- Identify potential risks or technical challenges proactively and implement timely resolutions
- Maintain strong client relationships through consistent communication and expectation management
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong expertise in IT infrastructure, including servers, networking, and VoIP phone systems
- Proven experience leading and executing infrastructure deployments
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical or field engineering teams
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business language
- Highly detail-oriented with strong documentation practices
- Experience with ConnectWise or similar PSA/ticketing/project management platforms preferred
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical involvement
- Previous experience in an MSP, consulting, or customer-focused IT services environment strongly preferred
