Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced RCM Strategist to join our client's Customer Success Consulting Practice. This is a client-facing consulting and advisory role focused on helping healthcare provider organizations optimize their Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) operations and improve financial performance.

The RCM Strategist will work with healthcare clients across the full revenue cycle, including charge capture, medical coding, claims submission, payment posting, denial management, accounts receivable recovery, payer performance, and reimbursement optimization.

The ideal candidate will combine deep RCM expertise with strong analytical, consulting, and client relationship skills and will be comfortable working with CFOs, billing directors, practice administrators, and healthcare operations leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Cycle Advisory

  • Serve as the primary RCM subject matter expert and trusted advisor for assigned healthcare clients.
  • Provide consulting support across billing, coding, claims submission, payment posting, denial management, and AR recovery.
  • Conduct end-to-end RCM assessments to identify workflow, staffing, technology, and payer-related gaps.
  • Develop prioritized improvement roadmaps with timelines, measurable goals, and success metrics.
  • Advise clients on ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, charge capture, coding accuracy, and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI).
  • Develop strategies to reduce coding-related denials and underpayments.
  • Help clients improve clean claim rates, days in AR, reimbursement cycles, and collections.
  • Support denial management programs, including root cause analysis, appeals, payer escalations, and workflow redesign.
  • Identify opportunities to improve overall revenue cycle efficiency and financial performance.

RCM Analytics & Reporting

  • Develop and deliver RCM dashboards, KPI reports, and performance analyses for client leadership and executive audiences.
  • Monitor key RCM metrics including:
    • Days in AR
    • Clean Claim Rate
    • Denial Rate
    • First-Pass Resolution Rate
    • Net Collection Rate
    • Cost to Collect
  • Analyze trends and identify root causes impacting revenue cycle performance.
  • Conduct payer contract and fee schedule analysis.
  • Identify underpayment patterns, contract compliance issues, and opportunities for payer appeals or renegotiation.
  • Lead periodic RCM performance reviews and present recommendations to client stakeholders.

Client & Executive Engagement

  • Lead client-facing consulting sessions, business reviews, and strategic planning meetings.
  • Work directly with CFOs, Billing Directors, Practice Administrators, and RCM leadership.
  • Provide ongoing RCM coaching, subject matter expertise, and escalation support.
  • Communicate changes related to CMS regulations, payer policies, coding guidelines, and healthcare billing requirements.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with client RCM teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Account Managers to identify opportunities for additional RCM services within existing client accounts.
  • Collaborate with EHR, Value-Based Care, Quality, Provider Enrollment, and Compliance specialists.
  • Develop RCM best-practice resources, including:
    • Billing process templates
    • Coding reference guides
    • RCM toolkits
    • Best-practice playbooks
  • Support sales and business development activities, including RFPs, proposals, client presentations, and renewal discussions.

Key Performance Indicators

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Improvement in Days in AR, Clean Claim Rate, and Net Collection Rate.
  • Reduction in denial rates.
  • Successful appeal and recovery rates.
  • Client satisfaction and retention.
  • Timeliness and quality of RCM reporting.
  • Successful delivery of client improvement initiatives.
  • SLA adherence across active engagements.
  • Contribution to RCM service expansion opportunities.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or equivalent coding certification strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 5 8+ years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, medical billing, or healthcare financial operations.
  • 3+ years of experience in a client-facing consulting, advisory, managed services, or healthcare services role.
  • Strong knowledge of the complete healthcare revenue cycle, including:
    • Charge Capture
    • Medical Coding
    • Claims Submission

    • Denial Management
    • AR Management & Collections
  • Experience with major practice management, EHR, and billing systems, such as:
    • Athenahealth

  • Experience working with healthcare clearinghouses.
  • Knowledge of payer contracts, fee schedules, underpayment analysis, and payer performance.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
  • Understanding of CMS billing regulations and healthcare reimbursement practices.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a healthcare RCM consultant, RCM strategist, revenue cycle manager, healthcare revenue cycle consultant, or senior medical billing professional who has both deep operational RCM knowledge and strong client-facing consulting experience.

Candidates should be comfortable analyzing RCM performance data, identifying revenue leakage, improving billing and collections processes, managing denials, evaluating payer performance, and presenting recommendations to healthcare executives.

Work Environment

This is a remote-first, U.S.-based position with regular client-facing engagements. The role requires occasional travel to client locations, quarterly business reviews, and periodic team meetings.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Account Managers, consulting specialists, and Customer Success leadership while managing multiple client engagements.
