Summary

Overview

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Database Server Administrator to support a federal client's on-premises Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments. The selected candidate will provide senior-level database engineering and administration, delivering automated, FISMA-compliant solutions that support the PostgreSQL Authority to Operate (ATO), cloud readiness, and platform modernization.

Period of Performance 9/14/26 - 12/31/26 with the possibility of an additional 12-month extension.

Work Location: On-site in Washington, DC without remote or hybrid work options.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement GitLab CI/CD pipelines for database server and instance builds, version upgrades, patching, cumulative updates, and configuration changes across enterprise SQL Server and PostgreSQL service offerings.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using PowerShell, Ansible playbooks and roles executed through Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), and IaC modules to provision, configure, and enforce the desired state of on-premises database servers.
  • Develop PowerShell scripts and T-SQL stored procedures to automate routine database and server administration tasks.
  • Automate database backups, health checks, patch cycles, and configuration-drift remediation.
  • Integrate vulnerability scanning, system hardening, and FISMA control evidence into delivery pipelines to support the PostgreSQL ATO.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks and provide knowledge transfer to client personnel.
Database Administration & Operations
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025 instances across development, test, and production environments.
  • Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Monitor database performance, capacity, availability, and overall health using native tools and third-party monitoring solutions.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including index optimization, statistics updates, and integrity checks using DBCC CHECKDB.
  • Administer database security, including user accounts, roles, permissions, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), and Always Encrypted.
  • Perform database performance tuning and optimization.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Senior-level experience administering enterprise Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing GitLab CI/CD pipelines for database infrastructure and lifecycle management.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, PowerShell, Ansible, Ansible Automation Platform, and T-SQL stored procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, security, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Strong database performance tuning and optimization experience.
  • Experience implementing security hardening, vulnerability scanning, and compliance evidence in FISMA-regulated environments.
  • Ability to develop clear technical documentation and runbooks and deliver effective knowledge transfer.

Place or Work: This is a full-time onsite position located in Washington, D.C., New York Avenue facility. The selected candidate will work a set first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, and may be required to participate in an on-call rotation for emergency hardware issues, travel occasionally, and work weekends or overtime as needed.

Salary: $42.50 - $45.50 / Hr.
