Summary
The ideal candidate will have mathematical and statistical expertise, along with natural curiosity and a creative mind. While mining, interpreting, and cleaning our data, this person will be relied on to ask questions, connect the dots, and uncover hidden opportunities for realizing the data's full potential. As part of a team of data analysts and engineers, the data scientist will slice and dice data using various methods and create new visions for the future. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director, Data Science. The position location is flexible, but the placement must be willing to travel quarterly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Great storyteller
- Data mining or extracting usable data from valuable data sources
- Using machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers
- Carrying out preprocessing of structured and unstructured data
- Enhancing data collection procedures to include all relevant information for developing analytic systems
- Processing, cleansing, and validating the integrity of data to be used for analysis
- Analyzing large amounts of information to find patterns and solutions
- Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms
- Presenting results in a clear manner
- Propose solutions and strategies to tackle business challenges
- Collaborate with Business and IT teams
- Builds actionable data visualizations that identify areas of opportunity and help drive excellence at scale
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with several stakeholders across multiple organizations
- Be curious, creative, opinionated thinker with a talent for detecting patterns and elevating through strategy
- Ability to facilitate conversations with business owners and stakeholders to understand the problem, rapidly iterate proposed solutions, and clearly present new findings and solutions

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or related field and 5+ years of data and analytics experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Programming skills in statistical languages such as R, Python, and database query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig; familiarity with Scala, Java, or C++ is a plus
- Strong applied statistical skills including statistical tests, distributions, regression, and maximum likelihood estimators
- Knowledge of machine learning methods such as k-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, SVM, and Decision Forests
- Strong math skills including multivariable calculus and linear algebra
- Data wrangling proficiency
- Experience with data visualization tools such as matplotlib, ggplot, d3.js, Power BI, or Tableau
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong software engineering background
- Hands-on experience with data science tools
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Analytical mindset and strong business sense
