Staff Fullstack Engineer / High Traffic Web Startup / Chicago

A venture-backed consumer technology startup in Chicago is hiring a Senior or Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer to help scale a high-traffic, real-time digital platform centered around live events, subscription experiences, and online communities. The company has attracted a large and rapidly growing national user base and is backed by institutional investors following a recent funding round.

The organization is in a pivotal growth phase, rebuilding and expanding its engineering team with experienced builders who want meaningful ownership. This is a position based in Chicago with in-person collaboration 5 days a week. Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience building and maintaining full-stack web applications in production environments
• Strong backend development skills and experience designing APIs and scalable systems
• Experience working with modern JavaScript frameworks
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience working on consumer-facing products with significant user volume
• Background in subscription platforms, financial systems, marketplaces, or live data applications
• Experience in startup or early-stage environments
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or similar modern languages
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems
• Product-focused mindset with strong ownership mentality

What You Will Be Doing

• Tech Breakdown: Full-stack development using modern backend services and contemporary frontend frameworks
• Daily Responsibilities: Approximately 80% hands-on engineering / 20% system design and cross-functional collaboration
• Designing, building, and improving core product features
• Developing scalable systems that support real-time user interaction
• Partnering closely with product and leadership on technical decisions
• Contributing to architectural direction and engineering best practices
• Collaborating daily with a small, tight-knit team
