Schedule: Hybrid (4 days onsite per week)
We are seeking an experienced
Applications Engineer to support the development of automotive body structures from concept through production launch. This role focuses on sheet metal design, vehicle structural performance, supplier coordination, and product development within a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and release automotive body structure components, including roof panels, roof ditches, pillar structures (A, B, C, and D), quarter panels, and upper body sheet metal.
- Develop 3D CAD models and engineering releases while ensuring manufacturability, quality, durability, cost, and weight targets are achieved.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, suppliers, purchasing, finance, safety, and vehicle integration groups.
- Support prototype builds, tooling development, supplier launches, testing, and production implementation.
- Review design feasibility, engineering changes, validation results, and structural performance requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
- Minimum 5 years of automotive product design and release experience.
- Experience designing and developing automotive sheet metal components from concept through production.
- Proficiency with CATIA V5/V6, 3DX, or similar CAD software.
- Strong understanding of vehicle structures, safety requirements, durability, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent communication, project coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of DFMEA, DVP&R, DMAIC, DFSS, DOE, 8D problem solving, and failure mode avoidance methodologies.
- Experience reviewing CAE results, component drawings, and vehicle structural performance requirements.
- Familiarity with FMVSS, NVH, roof crush, side impact, and durability standards.
