Summary

About the Team

Here at BTI360, we've built a culture that's passionate about developing software engineers. Software doesn't build itself. People do. In fact, teams of people do. That's why our primary focus is on developing better craftsmen, better teammates, and better technical leaders. By putting people first, we're not just giving our teammates more opportunities to grow, we're also raising the bar of the software we ship. BTI360 previously has been voted 10 years in a row as a TOP Place to Work by the Washington Business Journal.

Are you a senior engineer interested in expanding the use of open-source intelligence (OSINT) data for end users and data scientists across the Intelligence Community?

We're hiring a Senior Data Platform Engineer to help expand our AWS- and Kubernetes-based data lake into a community-wide data hub. Our goal is to modernize the unclassified OSINT data layer by developing new access patterns and services that support AI/ML enrichment, ETL pipelines, and data discovery and dissemination.

If you are excited about building next-generation, scalable data architecture and applying your knowledge of the AWS ecosystem, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
What You'll Do in This Role
  • Build backend services using Java and the Spring ecosystem
  • Develop cloud-native solutions using AWS
  • Contribute to full-stack development using React and Next.js
  • Support event-driven architectures and distributed systems
  • Work across multiple projects within the data platform and data pipeline unit
  • Follow established Infrastructure as Code and Kubernetes patterns using technologies such as Terraform and Terragrunt
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams on infrastructure-related initiatives
  • Help modernize and expand data access, metadata services, and platform capabilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Active Secret clearance or higher, with the willingness and ability to upgrade to a TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent professional experience
  • Eight or more years of experience developing applications using Java and the Spring Framework
  • Experience developing solutions in AWS cloud environments
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Amazon SNS/SQS, EventBridge, Kinesis, or JMS
  • Primary residence within a two-hour commuting distance of our Herndon office
  • Ability to work effectively as both a collaborative team member and a self-starter in a dynamic environment
Desired Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting modern data platforms, data lakes, and data pipelines using technologies such as Databricks, Apache Spark, Snowflake, or comparable tools
  • Experience optimizing platform performance and storage for client access patterns, supporting distributed data architectures, and implementing data lifecycle capabilities, including CRUD operations and record versioning
  • Experience with testing frameworks and tools such as JUnit, AssertJ, Mockito, or Spring Runner
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash
  • Experience working in Linux environments
  • Experience using Git for source control
  • Deep, hands-on experience with AWS services such as Amazon S3, DynamoDB, EKS, DocumentDB, Lambda, Timestream, CloudWatch, EC2, or ECS
  • Experience developing and deploying containerized applications
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with React or Next.js
  • Ability to identify and interpret external data specifications and common data representations
  • Experience building monitoring and alerting capabilities for data pipelines using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects or communities

The base salary pay range for this role is $146,000 - $255,500. This range reflects base compensation only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or additional pay incentives associated with the opportunity.
