Position: Senior AWS AI Engineer

Location: Candidates must reside in MA / NH / RI (Hybrid / Onsite as required by MassDOT IT)

Duration: Contract role (end date not specified; possibility of extension)

Rate: Negotiable based on experience

About MassDOT IT:

At MassDOT IT, our AI Engineering Team builds secure, human-centered AI solutions that streamline business processes and deliver meaningful value to constituents. Operating in a highly regulated public-sector environment, we emphasize responsible AI implementation, strong data security, and transparency. The team primarily works with leading large language models (LLMs) deployed in secure Amazon Bedrock environments to support innovative, compliant AI-driven web applications.
Detailed List of Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead AI engineering initiatives by taking ownership of solution design and delivery.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy AI solutions using Amazon Bedrock and related AWS services.
  • Advocate for technical integrity, transparency, and responsible AI practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Engage directly with stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into effective AI solutions.
  • Explore and implement opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into existing applications and workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather, document, and refine business and technical requirements.
  • Ensure best practices for model deployment, monitoring, optimization, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Develop and complete AI COE artifacts and technical documentation to support knowledge transfer and audit compliance.
  • Participate in collaborative development using cloud-based version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in application development and AI/ML implementation.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Amazon Bedrock and related AWS services.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML frameworks, model deployment, and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating applications into complex enterprise systems.
  • Proficiency in React and TypeScript for building AI-powered user interfaces.
  • Experience designing intuitive, user-centered UI/UX for AI applications.
  • Comfort working with cloud-based version control tools and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working on public sector or government projects.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements and security standards in regulated environments.
  • AWS AI Cloud Practitioner certification or similar credentials.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
