Summary

Job Title: Application Architect

Location: Remote/Hybrid - DHS CISA and authorized contractor facilities - 4200 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203 and 4601 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA 22203. Telework only with Government approval.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday.

Security Requirements: DHS CISA IREM Tier 4 background investigation required; must obtain and maintain a favorable DHS/CISA suitability/fitness determination/public trust and required facility and system access.

Work Authorization: U.S. citizenship required for DHS IT system access. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

AttainX is seeking an Application Architect to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Infrastructure and Risk Modeling Environment (IRME). This senior technical role supports project management through system assessment, architecture analysis, requirements definition, and modernization planning. The architect advises on technical direction for risk modeling, simulations, geospatial analysis, and enterprise integration.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 7+ years of relevant IT experience, including at least 3 years in application or solution architecture and 2 years supporting cloud architecture, integration or legacy modernization.
  • Senior-level experience designing enterprise application architectures and guiding modernization and integration.
  • Experience with cloud-native or multi-cloud architectures, APIs, microservices, and SaaS integration.
  • Experience assessing data models, dependencies, migration strategies, validation, and rollback controls.
  • Knowledge of secure design, Zero Trust, identity management, OAuth 2.0, SAML, and open data exchange standards.
  • Experience with agile delivery, architecture reviews, development pipelines, and lifecycle testing.
  • Familiarity with Federal security authorization, FISMA, FedRAMP, privacy, and Section 508 accessibility.
  • Ability to explain architecture trade-offs; geospatial, risk modeling, data platform, or approved AI/ML integration experience is preferred.
  • A current AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect, TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Practitioner, or equivalent architecture certification is highly preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Assess and inventory application architecture, cloud infrastructure, software, data models, data flows, interfaces, and integrations.
  • Identify technical debt, security vulnerabilities, performance bottlenecks, and architectural dependencies; document findings and recommended actions.
  • Interview stakeholders and technical teams to translate mission needs into candidate capabilities and architectural requirements with end-to-end traceability.
  • Document current workflows, technical constraints, pain points, risks, and modernization goals for the risk modeling environment.
  • Develop and compare architecture modernization options; contribute cost-benefit analyses, risk assessments, and resource estimates.
  • Support a phased modernization roadmap with milestone decision points, dependencies, measurable outcomes, and incremental implementation priorities.
  • Provide technical direction and architecture inputs to project plans, schedules, roles, responsibilities, and risk mitigation actions.
  • Support enterprise architecture and Systems Engineering Life Cycle reviews and document architectural decisions and governance inputs.
  • Prepare architecture diagrams, technical reports, briefings, and demonstrations for Government review and decision-making.
  • Maintain architecture documentation and knowledge repositories; support technical knowledge transfer and continuity of services.

Work is performed at DHS CISA offices in Arlington, Virginia, and authorized contractor facilities. Telework is situational, requires Government approval, and may be revoked. General work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays, with core availability from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Occasional work outside normal hours, including weekends or holidays, may be required for crisis response or critical IT issues.
