Summary

Job Title: Android Engineer

Location: San Francisco Bay Area (Hybrid – Berry St HQ preferred)
Duration: Late May – December (High possibility of extension)
Rate: Max Pay $100 -105/hr

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled and passionate Android Engineer to join a high-impact “tiger team” focused on accelerating modernization of our Rider Android application. This role involves adopting modern unidirectional architecture to improve scalability, maintainability, and developer productivity.

You will collaborate closely with senior and staff engineers across mobile infrastructure and product teams to deliver high-quality features at scale. The application serves millions of users, with a strong emphasis on clean architecture, rapid release cycles, and data-driven improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with senior and staff Android engineers to adopt new APIs and resolve technical blockers
Quickly ramp up on existing codebase, architecture, and product context
Contribute to both new feature development and legacy code improvements
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices
Support and unblock team members in a collaborative environment

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of software engineering experience
Proven experience building and shipping large-scale Android applications
Strong expertise in Kotlin
Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose
Experience with unit testing and snapshot testing
Strong understanding of unidirectional data flow (UDF, MVI, MVVM)
Experience with asynchronous programming (Kotlin coroutines, suspend functions)
Experience with reactive programming (RxJava and/or Kotlin Flows)
Experience building shared/reusable components
Exposure to AI-augmented development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code)

Nice to Have

Experience working in high-scale consumer applications
Familiarity with A/B testing, feature flagging, and analytics
Strong understanding of CI/CD and automated testing practices
