Job Summary:
The Senior Database Administrator works collaboratively with EIS technical staff to install, maintain, troubleshoot and optimize relevant RDBMS database instances for departmental and enterprise-wide systems for both on-premises and cloud platforms. The Senior EIS DBA also coordinates daily work and long-term projects for themselves and other DBA process improvement projects.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Installs and upgrades database software on selected server platforms and ensures license compliance.
Manages storage associated with RDBMS databases and assists system administrators with storage allocation and planning related to the database.
Assists with the installation, security/bug-fix patching, server maintenance and upgrades of enterprise-wide databases.
Defines and implements database security, audit and resource allocation policies and procedures.
Defines, creates and manages user accounts, profiles, privileges, roles, and required audit information.
Monitors and optimizes the performance of RDBMS instances using DBA tools, SQL scripts and DBA utilities.
Designs, monitors and implements database backup strategies across RDBMS instances.
Executes database recovery, restoration, and/or restart as required. Perform quarterly disaster recovery validation.
Creates and/or maintains automation and monitoring scripts
Monitors and completes operational tasks from the team ticketing queue. Assigns tickets as necessary to team members.
Participates in DBA on-call rotation (24/7) in a weekly rotation. Participates and offers expertise in critical-call event management. Mentors and supports DBA team members during their on-call rotations when required.
Creates, maintains and ensures documentation of team processes and procedures, including operating manuals or training materials for internally managed databases and systems.

Work Experience
Requires 6 years of production database administration experience. Healthcare sector preferred.
Skills
Working knowledge of monitoring, tuning, and administration of RDBMS databases required. Working knowledge of patient care databases and financial and administrative database applications required.
Extensive experience with AIX, Linux and Windows operating systems and tools. Scripting experience preferred (Shell, PERL, Powershell, etc.)
Preferred experience in:
AWS (RDS, EC2, CloudFormation)
MySQL, PostgreSQL and SAP HANA
PowerShell, Shell, Python or other scripting languages.
Excellent verbal and written skills.
Strong interpersonal skills in dealing effectively with diverse skill sets and personalities and work effectively as a team player.
Strong skills in prioritizing workloads, meeting deadlines, managing several broad-scope projects at one time, and utilizing time effectively for staff and self.
Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
Certification in one of the listed RDBMS platforms (SQL and/or Oracle certification preferred)
