Universal Services is the enterprise IT solutions center for the departments and offices of Harris County, providing Information Technology, Public Safety and Justice Technologies, 311 Constituent Engagement Services, Fleet Services, and Records and Information Governance Services.

Position Overview:

The Systems Engineer - Video Services is responsible for supporting and maintaining the County's video conferencing and streaming infrastructure, with a focus on A/V over IP technologies. This role ensures continuous availability of video services for Commissioners' Court, Multi-Purpose and Conference Rooms. The engineer plays a critical role in system configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting, and providing 24/7 support for video endpoints, recording systems, and livestream environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for the Commissioners Court live streaming via service provider.
  • Install and update software & firmware for AV related devices.
  • Design and manage AV projects between vendor and customer.
  • Update configuration of Crestron, Extron, QSC and AMX control systems
  • Update and maintain AV assets in monitoring tools.
  • Provide backup support for AV Architect and their duties.
  • Provide technical support AV and video conferencing systems.

Requirements
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Crestron, Extron, QSC, AMX hardware and video conferencing systems.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with video endpoint devices.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of streaming protocols: RTMP, RTSP & Multicast Routing
  • Barco ClickShare Presentation and Video Conferencing devices.
  • AV over IP Systems and Platforms: Dante, QSC Creston, Extron, Visionary AV, Haivision & BrightSign
  • IP Routing & Subnetting

General Information
Hours:
  • This role requires availability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business and operational demands.
  • May be required to work more than forty hours during the workweek or on weekends when special projects or deadlines need to be met.

Location:
  • 406 Caroline, Houston, TX 77002
  • This location will be home office, but position may require traveling to different locations within Harris County.

Work Arrangement:
  • Onsite 5 days/week

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
