Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer, Custom AI Infrastructure Solutions

Mechanical Engineering leads and delivers the development of innovative and compliant mechanical design solutions. Our team conducts the analysis, feasibility studies and testing of mechanical products, instruments, subassemblies and packaging for new and existing products - and then oversees the introduction of design changes to the manufacturing organizations.

As a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer, Custom AI Infrastructure Solutions, you will own complex mechanical designs, conduct detailed analyses, and prepare test plans to validate function, reliability, and compliance. You will coordinate with manufacturing and resolve build issues.

Responsibilities

You will:

• Lead the design and development of customized AI infrastructure and rack-scale solutions for Dell's largest enterprise and hyperscale customers
• Own mechanical and thermal design execution for customer-specific hardware, driving cooling, configuration, and product changes from concept through production
• Develop high-density rack architectures, air- and liquid-cooled systems, and complex mechanical assemblies optimized for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability
• Partner with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and supplier teams to resolve technical challenges and accelerate deployment of custom solutions at scale
• Drive innovation through advanced engineering analysis, prototyping, and AI-enabled automation tools that improve design efficiency and speed time-to-market

Essential Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in electro-mechanical product development, delivering complex hardware systems from concept through production
• Proven expertise in designing high-density data center infrastructure, including rack-scale and AI computing solutions
• Strong background in air and liquid cooling technologies, with experience in rack-level thermal design and direct liquid cooling
• Proficiency with Creo, SolidWorks, or similar 3D CAD tools for the design of complex mechanical assemblies
• Experience applying engineering analysis, including FEA, while interpreting technical specifications and supplier data to drive design decisions
• Familiarity with AI-enabled engineering tools and automation technologies that improve design efficiency and accelerate product development

Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary range for this position is $176,000-$242,000.
