Summary

Business Systems Analyst 

Our client, a leading organization in the midstream industry, is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to support the Commercial technology team. This is a full-time, direct-hire position focused on delivering technology solutions that improve business operations, streamline processes, and support critical commercial systems.

The ideal candidate combines strong business analysis skills with technical knowledge and enjoys working closely with business stakeholders, software developers, and project teams to deliver scalable solutions that support both day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with business users to understand operational challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate business objectives into functional technology solutions.
  • Gather, analyze, document, and validate business and system requirements for new projects, enhancements, and application support initiatives.
  • Act as the primary liaison between business teams and technical resources throughout the software delivery process.
  • Participate as a key member of an Agile delivery team, helping prioritize work, refine user stories, and support sprint planning and execution.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, vendors, and technology teams to investigate production issues, resolve application concerns, and recommend system improvements.
  • Develop business process documentation, workflows, functional specifications, diagrams, and other supporting documentation required for successful solution delivery.
  • Ensure solutions meet business expectations through detailed testing strategies, test case development, execution support, and user acceptance coordination.
  • Monitor project progress, communicate risks, and escalate issues when appropriate to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to applications, compliance requirements, system changes, and support procedures.
  • Create and maintain standardized documentation for business requirements, technical specifications, and operational processes.
  • Produce reports and analytical summaries that provide project status, issue tracking, and operational insights to leadership.
  • Support application implementations by performing post-deployment validation and ensuring successful adoption by business users.
  • Assist with incident management by documenting issues, tracking resolutions, and contributing to a centralized knowledge base for ongoing support.
  • Participate in system support rotations as required to ensure timely response to production issues.
  • Develop and deliver end-user training materials and assist with knowledge transfer for new functionality and system enhancements.
  • Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning activities for supported applications.

Project Leadership Responsibilities

Depending on project assignments, this individual may also:

  • Lead business analysis efforts for enterprise technology initiatives from initial planning through implementation.
  • Coordinate project activities, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communications for assigned initiatives.
  • Develop business cases and evaluate proposed technology solutions through research and data analysis.
  • Analyze application performance issues and identify root causes while recommending corrective actions and long-term improvements.
  • Partner with business leadership to prioritize enhancements, support requests, and future technology investments.
  • Manage projects of varying size and complexity while ensuring milestones, budgets, and objectives remain on track.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, software delivery practices, and industry trends to recommend process improvements.
  • Assist with vendor relationships, including support coordination, service agreements, and ongoing application management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience supporting or implementing enterprise business applications.
  • At least five years of experience working with structured project delivery methodologies.
  • Three or more years of experience working within software development environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in business process analysis, requirements gathering, and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend effective solutions.
  • Working knowledge of modern enterprise technologies and application architectures.
  • Experience researching technical solutions, evaluating software capabilities, and presenting recommendations to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications related to business analysis, Agile delivery, or project management.
  • Experience serving as a Product Owner or Solution Owner within Agile development teams.
  • Understanding of the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Broad knowledge of application development concepts, programming methodologies, and enterprise software platforms.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations, cybersecurity best practices, and compliance requirements applicable to regulated industries.
  • Experience supporting technology within the natural gas, NGL, energy, or midstream pipeline sector.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory environments affecting pipeline operations, including FERC, NAESB, DOT, SOX, and related compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with TSA pipeline security requirements.
  • Experience using enterprise delivery and support tools such as Jira, ServiceNow, and TestRail.
  • Proven ability to create detailed functional specifications, process documentation, and user-focused application requirements.

Education

Required

  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
