Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior IT Project Manager for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC. This is a 18+ month contract opportunity. We are seeking a Senior IT Project Manager with extensive experience to lead a large-scale Hadoop environment decommissioning and data migration initiative. The ideal candidate will have a strong background managing complex infrastructure, data platform, application migration, and technology decommissioning projects within large enterprise environments. This role will coordinate cross-functional technology teams, establish project plans, manage risks, and ensure the legacy Hadoop environment is successfully retired with minimal business disruption.
Responsibilities: - Lead the end-to-end project management of a Hadoop environment decommissioning initiative, from planning through final shutdown and retirement
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, dependencies, and resource requirements
- Coordinate migration activities involving Hadoop, Big Data, data platforms, applications, databases, and cloud environments
- Work with technical teams to identify applications, data, interfaces, jobs, users, and downstream/upstream dependencies associated with the Hadoop environment
- Partner with architects, engineers, infrastructure teams, data teams, application owners, security, and business stakeholders to establish migration and decommissioning strategies
- Manage the migration of data and workloads from Hadoop to designated target platforms
- Track application remediation, data migration, validation, testing, cutover, and decommissioning activities
- Establish and manage RAID logs (Risks, Actions, Issues, Decisions), project status reporting, and executive communications
- Identify project risks and dependencies and develop mitigation and contingency plans
- Coordinate multiple workstreams and technical teams to ensure activities remain aligned with the overall project schedule
- Manage change control, scope, deliverables, and project documentation
- Facilitate project meetings, working sessions, steering committee meetings, and executive status reviews
- Establish and track project KPIs and milestones related to migration completion and Hadoop shutdown
- Coordinate production cutover and decommissioning activities, including validation and post-migration support
- Ensure appropriate documentation, approvals, controls, and signoffs are completed before final environment retirement
- Communicate project progress, risks, issues, and decisions to senior leadership and stakeholders
Requirements: - 7+ years of IT Project Management experience managing complex technology initiatives
- Proven experience managing technology decommissioning and/or application/data migration projects
- Strong understanding of infrastructure, application, and data migration lifecycles
- Experience coordinating multiple technical teams and complex cross-system dependencies
- Experience managing large enterprise projects with multiple stakeholders and workstreams
- Strong experience with project planning, scheduling, RAID management, risk management, and executive reporting
- Excellent communication, organization, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working in an Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project delivery environment
- Strong ability to translate technical information into clear project status and executive-level communications
Desired skills: - Experience leading projects involving Hadoop or Big Data environments
Pay range: $51.09 - $59.09 per hour
