Power BI Consultant (Ed-Fi/EPDM)

Position Overview:

• The Education client is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise reporting and data solutions supporting K-12 education data.
• The developer will work across Power BI, SQL Server, data integration, and analytics environments to maintain the data processes that feed dashboards and reporting solutions.
• This position will also participate in requirements gathering, dashboard governance, technical documentation, deployments, and infrastructure-related initiatives.
• A strong understanding of K-12 education data, including Ed-Fi Data Standards and the Educator Preparation Data Model (EPDM), is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, enhance, test, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
• Maintain and update the data integration and front-end processes that support Power BI dashboards.
• Design and troubleshoot data solutions using SSIS, SSAS, MySQL, and SAS.
• Manage Power BI data gateways, connections, and data availability across reporting environments.
• Participate in requirements gathering and work with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Serve on the dashboard governance committee, providing technical feasibility assessments, development estimates, and implementation recommendations.
• Implement approved dashboard enhancements and department-requested reporting updates.
• Troubleshoot data display, connectivity, and availability issues.
• Prepare technical documentation and deployment instructions for test and production environments.
• Provide technical support and consultation during infrastructure migrations and system updates.
• Support application and reporting deployments across development, test, and production environments.

Required Experience:

• The successful candidate should bring 10+ years of Power BI development experience along with strong hands-on experience across the Microsoft data and analytics stack, including Power BI Data Gateway, SSIS, and SSAS.
• The role also requires substantial experience working with MySQL, SAS, and technical documentation, as well as direct experience with K-12 education data environments.
• Most importantly, candidates must have:

• 3+ years working with the Ed-Fi Data Standard
• 3+ years working with the Educator Preparation Data Model (EPDM)
• 3+ years of K-12 education or education-agency experience
• Relevant backgrounds include State Departments of Education, K-12 school districts, school systems, and other organizations supporting K-12 education data.
• Higher-education/university experience alone does not satisfy the K-12 education requirement.
