About the Opportunity
We're partnering with an established, employee-owned engineering and technology company seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting organization. This highly visible leadership role will oversee financial reporting, payroll, billing, government contract compliance, and a well-established accounting team while partnering closely with executive leadership to support continued growth.

The ideal candidate brings deep Government Contracting (GovCon) accounting experience, thrives in a regulated environment, and enjoys improving processes while maintaining exceptional financial controls.

Responsibilities
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
Manage and mentor an established accounting team, including accounting managers, staff accountants, payroll, billing, accounts payable, and related functions.
Oversee financial reporting, budgeting support, cash flow forecasting, and executive financial analysis.
Ensure compliance with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards for long-term project and contract accounting.
Maintain compliance with FAR, DFARS, DCAA, and other government contracting regulations.
Lead DCAA audit readiness, incurred cost submissions, indirect rate support, and government compliance activities.
Oversee payroll administration and DCAA-compliant timekeeping processes.
Ensure accurate project accounting, labor allocations, indirect rate calculations, and contract billing.
Oversee federal, state, sales, property tax, and business license compliance.
Manage equity ownership accounting and related reporting requirements.
Strengthen internal controls and continuously improve accounting processes, systems, and workflow automation.
Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives and operational improvements.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
CPA preferred (CMA or MBA also considered).
8+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
At least 4 years leading accounting within a Government Contracting (GovCon), Aerospace, or Defense organization.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASC 606, FAR, DFARS, and DCAA compliance requirements.
Experience leading DCAA audits, incurred cost submissions, and indirect rate calculations.
Experience with project accounting, government contract billing, and cost accounting.
Advanced experience with GovCon ERP systems (Deltek Costpoint strongly preferred).
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong leadership, communication, and process improvement experience.
U.S. Citizenship required.
