Software Engineer
W2 Contract
Pay Rate: $65 - $75 per hour
Location: Sunnyvale, CA - Hybrid
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join a hybrid team building high-performance systems software. This role sits close to the hardware and the network stack, working on Linux and embedded Linux platforms where reliability, performance, and security are top priorities. The ideal candidate is a strong systems programmer who is comfortable moving between application code, low-level internals, and networking protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain systems-level software in C/C++, Golang, or Rust for Linux and embedded Linux environments.
- Build and optimize networking components, protocols, and data paths.
- Debug and resolve complex issues across the software/hardware boundary, including performance, memory, and concurrency problems.
- Collaborate with hardware, QA, and product teams to define technical requirements and ship reliable releases.
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
- Contribute to architecture and design decisions for networked and embedded systems.
- Support hardening of network security features such as firewalls, packet filtering, or intrusion detection, where applicable.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in at least one of: C/C++, Golang, or Rust
- Hands-on experience with Linux, including embedded Linux systems
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, sockets, routing, protocol design, and debugging)
- Experience debugging low-level system issues involving memory, concurrency, or performance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with firewalls, VPNs, or other network security technologies
- Familiarity with kernel modules, device drivers, or bootloaders
- Experience with network security concepts such as intrusion detection/prevention, packet inspection, or secure protocol design
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for embedded or systems software
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
