Description: Senior AWS Platform Engineer / Terraform Engineer whose primary responsibility is building reusable Terraform modules that are used by application teams across the entire enterprise. Contract to Hire Jersey City NJ - Hybrid The team acts as an internal cloud engineering organization that designs and builds standardized AWS infrastructure patterns for other developers to consume.
The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience creating Terraform modules from scratch for AWS services such as networking, storage, load balancing, Route53, ECS, and monitoring. They should be comfortable gathering requirements from internal customers, designing new infrastructure patterns, and delivering those solutions through a Git-based CI/CD pipeline.
The team currently supports AWS and will begin building Terraform modules for Google Cloud Platform, so cloud platform experience beyond AWS is a plus but not required. Python is a nice-to-have skill primarily used for AWS Lambda functions and automation. The interview is architecture and scenario-based rather than coding-focused, so candidates must be able to explain design decisions and recommend AWS solutions based on business requirements.

Job responsibilities
- Lead design and delivery of developer platform capabilities for AWS networking, EC2, and storage.
- Build and maintain Terraform IaC (reusable modules, state/backends, CI/CD integration, environment promotion).
- Develop platform automation and services in Python (provisioning workflows, validations, integrations with AWS APIs).
- Implement secure-by-default patterns (least-privilege IAM, network segmentation, encryption/KMS, secure storage configurations).
- Review code, debug complex issues, and improve reliability through automation and standardization.
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with architecture, security, and application teams to deliver reusable platform patterns.
- Expert in in Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure technology and design technique as well as experience working across large environments with multiple operating systems/infrastructure for large-scale programs (e.g., Expert Engineers) starting to be firm-wide resources working on projects across JPMC
- Is multi-skilled with expertise across software development lifecycle and toolset
- May be recognized as a leader in Agile and cultivating teams working in Agile frameworks
- Sought out as coach for at least one technical skill
- Strong understanding of techniques such as Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Test Driven Development, Cloud Development, resiliency, security
- Stays abreast of cutting edge technologies/trends and uses experience to influence application of those technologies/trends to support the business; may give speeches and outside the firm, writes articles
